Nara, capital of deers

Nara is a famous place - not only for being the ancient capital of Japan but also for it's deers. They walk freely wherever they like and cadging for cookies. If you freeze taking pictures or seat down, they'll approach you at once and try to chew your clothes or bag or back of your pants to make you know they are here and hungry. There are almost no benches at the park for that purpose and no food sold within the deer territory.

I really want to go there now. All the deer I see just run away from you.

オーチェン ハラショー nice pics. You were wondering about Japanese family emblem....We call them, MON, or KA-MON, (KA means family, or house) instead of emblem, in English, Family Crest. Every family has this Mon, mostly came from ancestors/ clan....with varied back grounds.
It is very interesting to lean about them. Please check "japanese family crest" on Google.

I did this last year and it was funny how the deer come right up to you. I petted several while others fed them. Very cute.

the most amazing thing is that they are not scared of people at all!

To be honest those pictures (really great ones by the way) show exactly how I experienced it last year. The deers only come to you if you have these special cookies, or something else to eat, which you hold for too long instead of eating it.

I haven't seen anyone being bitten or chased for nothing.

    Just luck?! :D

      thanks! :)

probably you were lucky :) when I came to the gate leading to Nandaimon, I stopped for a while looking for something in my purse and found myself surrounded by deers and some of them tried to bite my pants and purse. that was kinda scary! the lady who was selling some stuff nearby said "don't stop, just move", so maybe if you stop they understand that you might be having food for them, otherwise they don't really come.
