In more than a month since the tsunami struck Japan and liquefaction hit Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo, it has become clear that while it is possible to prepare for an earthquake (the largest in the country's history did little damage on the grand scheme of things), the power of sea is much more difficult to tame.

With more than 25,000 dead or missing and cities destroyed, footage from this tsunami may leave scientists better prepared in future for tsunami. Here are 10 clips from YouTube of the immediate effect water had on cities and towns up and down the Japan coast.
